Description: Waste Land follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”-self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Director Lucy Walker and co-directors Joao Jardim and Karen Harley have great access to the entire process and, in the end, offer stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.

About our Sponsors:

Chipotle Mexican Grill: Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO, started Chipotle with the idea that food served fast did not have to be a typical fast food experience. Today, Chipotle continues to offer a focused menu made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients, prepared using classic cooking methods and served in a distinctive atmosphere. Through our vision of Food With Integrity, Chipotle is seeking better food from using ingredients that are not only fresh, but that-where possible-are sustainably grown and naturally raised with respect for the animals, the land, and the farmers who produce the food. Chipotle currently operates more than 1,250 restaurants. For more information, visit Chipotle.com.
