Microgrant Applications Now Online!
Slow Food St. Louis is now accepting applications for the Biodiversity Farmer Micro-Grants. Slow Food St. Louis has awarded $20,000 over the past three years, supporting over 200 different varieties and breeds. We are offering grant money to further support biodiversity in the St. Louis (and surrounding area) food system. The grants will be made available to farmers and producers for growing heirloom varieties and/or raising heritage breeds. This year we have reached out to local chefs to connect you with what varieties they are looking to purchase. We will be setting aside a few grant awards specifically for these items and look forward to connecting the grantees with the Chefs.

Hi, I sent in a micro grant request, but at the time I did not have the cost of the land rental. I am a sophmore apprentice at EarthDance Farm The owner of the farm is willing to lease approx. an acre of land for the use of apprentices to grow their own plots. The fee he is charging is $500 for the growing season and he wants a liability insurance policy as well. I didn’t know if the grant would cover the cost of leasing the land if it was shared with other apprentices. The apprentices that I spoke to so far would be willing to comply with the requirements of the grant and grow some of the suggested crops on your list if the grant were approved, otherwise I would use a smaller portion of the land myself
.
Thank you for creating this program to help small growers such as myself. Many of us are unemployed and would not be able to pursue growing without assistance.
