Food on Film: Truck Farm
Title: ‘Truck Farm’ ScreeningLocation: Schlafly Bottleworks, 7260 Southwest Ave., Maplewood, MO 63143
Description: TRUCK FARM tells the story of the small farms in America’s largest city. Using green roof technology, lightweight soil, and heirloom seeds, director Ian Cheney plants a vegetable garden on the only land he’s got: the bed of his Grandad’s old pickup truck. Once the mobile garden begins to sprout, viewers are trucked across the city to see New York’s funkiest urban farms, and to find out if a big city can learn to feed itself. Blending serious exposition with serious silliness, Truck Farm entreats viewers to ponder the future of urban farming, and to consider whether sustainability needs a dose of whimsy to be truly sustainable.
Brian DeSmet, St. Louis’ own Truck Farmer, will attend the screening and will have his Truck Farm parked in the Bottleworks parking lot for all to view.
